Caregiving Favorites
Being a caregiver for my husband with dementia means I’ve tried a lot of different products trying to make our lives a little safer, calmer, and a bit easier. On this page, I’m sharing only the items that I’ve personally used and found truly helpful in our journey. I hope my recommendations can save you time, reduce stress, and bring a bit of comfort and confidence to your own caregiving path.
Air Tags
I buy these in bulk. I have them in everything from the dogs’ collars to my son’s wallet to my husband’s back pocket. I can track any item on my phone and share the location with anyone else who is helping to search.
Dementia Clock
I bought two of these clocks. It has the day of the week but also what part of the day it is (before dawn, morning, afternoon, evening). You can set an alarm and the light from the clock dims.
Medication
Dispenser
This pill dispenser has been a game changer. I bought it with the tilting stand…worth every penny. (See my blog)
Sketchers
These slip ons have become my husband’s favorites. He loves the fit and all he needs to do is step into the shoe. No tying required!
Medical Alert
Bracelet
When my husband wears this bracelet, I have peace of mind. I call it his sports bracelet and remind him that cyclists and runners wear them, too.
Fish Oil
This particular fish oil was recommended by my husband’s neurologist because of the higher ratio of the DHA. I take this now, too. Consult with a health professional to find what is best for your loved one.
St Dymphna
Medal
Because as caregivers, we need all the prayers we can get.
Air Tag Shoe Insole
A great way to keep track of your loved one is to replace the insoles of their shoe with this insole which holds an airtag. Brilliant concept but be sure to check their favorite shoe first in case the original insoles are not removable.
Ear Plugs
I keep these for my husband in a tiny plastic container in my purse and carry them with me always. He is super sensitive to noises and these fit nicely and stay well in his ears. Never leave home without them!
Toilet Motion Light
Yes, I know a toilet light is weird, but I have found that when my husband needs to use the restroom at night he is frequently disoriented. His motion will activate the light and help him to find his way. Unexpectedly and oddly helpful.
